What follows is a short pictorial history of the Military Service of some of my ancestors.
It's a work in progress, so not all the information is here yet.
Each photograph will be followed by a brief explanation of how the person is related to me and what the photo represents.

Photo of my Grandfather's Aunt Myrtle and her husband Bill Holstock, my Grandfathers brother Fred Cooper, Ruth (unknown relation),
my Great Grandfather Doug Cooper and his wife Clara. Carson Fairbarn is not related.
This photo was taken prior to Fred and Bill leaving for Hong Kong.

Postcard sent to my Great Grandmother Clara Cooper by her brother Charles Mills prior to his deployment overseas in World War 1.

Picture Postcard sent to my Great Granmother Clara Cooper from her father, Frederick Ashwin Mills.
He served with the Coast Guard in England prior to his death in 1911.

Bill Humphreys and his wife Kitty. Kitty was one of my Great Granmother Clara's nieces.

Edgar Mills, brother of my Great Grandmother Clara Cooper, and Ethel Pugh.
Edgar lived in Australia and this photo was taken prior to Edgar being deployed to Anzac in what would become known as the Dardanelles Campaign or Gallipoli Campaign of World War 1.
This photo was the last contact his family had with him and had thought he was lost in that battle until he made contact with his brothers in England in the early 1960's.

Certificate and Medallion given to Edgar Mills, my Great Grandmother's brother, for his participation in the Battle of Anzac.
The Medallion is Solid Bronze an measures 2" wide by 3" tall and is almost 1/4" thick.

A Battallion Christmas card sent to my Great Grandmother Clara (Mills) Cooper from her brother Charles during World War 1.

Medical "Discharge" papers for my Granfather.
During his physical prior to enlistment, Scarring was detected on his lung.
At this time, it was suspected of being a symptom of Tuberculosis and he was exempted from service.
The scarring that showed in the X-Ray was actually the remians of an injury he suffered from a plow as a child on the farm.

Frederick AShwin Mills. My Great Great Grandfather.
The family's understanding is that he served as a lighthouse keeper on the Isle of Wight in England.
His Uniform clearly suggests he was in the Coast Guard, but I have been unable to verify his exact duties.
This photo was carried by his daughter Clara, as it is shown here, when she came to Canada (at 11 yrs old in 1907) as one of the "Barnardo Children", later called "Home Children".

Personal ID (dog) Tag of Garfield Link. My Grandmother Willa Cooper's brother.
He served in World War 2 and died while serving in England.

This poem was written shortly after the end of World War 1. It has no direct ties to my family, other than one of them felt it worth saving for all these years.
I felt it worthy of being included on this page.
